Consolidated Freightways Orders New Trucks for 1998

Sept. 21 — Consolidated Freightways, Menlo Park, CA, has ordered 561 new trucks for delivery before the end of 1998. All but 20 of the tractors are being supplied by CF’s longtime truck manufacturer, Freightliner Corp.
CF is adding Freightliner’s Century Class tractors to its long-haul fleet, while medium-duty tractors and straight trucks are being placed in city and shorter-haul service. The company is also receiving 20 Mack trucks to be tested in its linehaul and city operations.
Earlier this year, CF asked a cross section of drivers from throughout the company to comment on what features and accessories they wanted. As a result, all tractors will be equipped with Chassis and cab air ride suspension, as well as Knoedler 9800 Series driver’s seats.
