This October Barr-Nunn celebrates 25 years of providing truckload and logistic services to shippers across the nation.
In 1982, Robert Sturgeon founded Sturgeon Truck Lines
with 13 trucks, hauling intermodal freight from Iowa to rail yards in Omaha, Kansas City and Denver. In 1985, the company expanded into the common and contract freight business under the name of Barr-Nunn Transportation, and began a rapid expansion of its tractor and trailer fleets, customer base and geographic footprint.
In 1989, Barr-Nunn opened a freight brokerage company to round out its transportation service offering. Over the past quarter century, Barr-Nunn has grown to become a fleet of nearly 700 late-model tractors, over 1,700 trailers and a work force of more than 700 employees and 124 independent contractors.
Throughout its history, Barr-Nunn has evolved as customer demands have changed. Once a long-haul, nationwide carrier, the company has adapted to serve the short to medium-haul, regional markets. With on-time pick-up and delivery service requirements as high as 99 percent, Barr-Nunn's features late model equipment, satellite-based communication and tracking software, a flexible electronic data interchange system, and customized computer software.
