Beginning this month, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) will move its certification tests for the automobile advanced engine performance specialist (L1) and medium/heavy truck electronic diesel engine diagnosis specialist (L2) to a paperless format.

“We know that time is valuable for service professionals, so by transitioning to paperless testing, we have made the L1 and L2 testing options more convenient for them,” said Dave Johnson, ASE president and CEO. “Now L1 and L2 test takers can use the ProProctor remote test delivery platform as an option for recertification.”

In addition to the L1 and L2 tests, the light-duty hybrid/electric vehicle specialist (L3) with certification test reference and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) specialist (L4) with composite vehicle are offered in a paperless format. With the new changes, the certification test reference and composite vehicle documents for all ASE advanced level tests will be available during testing in electronic pdf only.

ASE offers two test-taking options for L-Series tests, which are:

  • In-person testing is held throughout the year on days, nights and weekends at more than 450 secured, proctored Prometric test centers

  • ProProctor remote testing is available as an online, recertification solution
