Following rate hikes by competitors FedEx and UPS, Airborne Express this week announced a new pricing structure.
The new domestic rate structure includes a rate increase, a shift to zone-based pricing, and a non-scheduled pickup fee.
Airborne will implement an average rate increase of 5.5%, depending on shipping volume. Effective March 5, the increase will be applied to customers whose rates are not already set by contractual agreement. The increase will be phased in to include all accounts as existing contracts are renewed.
Effective Jan. 15, Airborne joined other national carriers by implementing a zone-based rate structure for its core air express services. Zone-based pricing, a pricing structure based on the distance a package is shipped, more accurately reflects the true cost of providing service. All major carriers now use zone-based pricing.
