New Jersey based less-than-truckload carrier A-P-A Transport has discontinued operations, with today being the last day to make freight pickups.

According to published reports, the company decided to close its doors because it could not secure needed financing to help it through the recession.
Pennsylvania-based New Penn Motor Express, a subsidiary of Roadway Corporation, has reached an agreement to continue providing service to A-P-A's former customers.
"The decision of A-P-A to discontinue operations certainly came as a shock to our industry, and especially to the customers of A-P-A," said New Penn President Stephen M. O'Kane. "We are in the process of working with A-P-A customers to provide a seamless transition and ensure that they do not experience delays in getting shipments delivered."
New Penn Motor Express, Inc. (www.newpenn.com), headquartered in Lebanon, Pa., is a regional less-than-truckload motor carrier providing next-day service through a network of 23 terminal facilities located in the Northeastern United States, Quebec, Canada and Puerto Rico. New Penn employs over 2,000 people and operates a fleet of over 800 tractors and 1,600 trailers.
