Economic Watch: U.S. NAFTA Trade Up 5%, Trucking Sees Healthy Increase

Three of the five transportation modes carried more U.S.-NAFTA trade in September than in September 2012, as the value of overall U.S. trade with its North American Free Trade Agreement partners, Canada and Mexico, rose 5% from year to year, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Border crossings into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico in 2012 included 10.7 million truck crossings, along with with personal vehicles entering the U.S. nearly 96 million times (33.1 million from Canada, and 62.7 million from Mexico.) The stats also include 320,000 buses and 37,000 trains.
