We tip our re-sizable, custom embroidered Truckinginfo.com baseball cap to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that yesterday unveiled a totally redesigned Web site.
New FMCSA Web Site: A Critical Review
According to an announcement on the home page, the new site features improved organization, better presentation and a more powerful search engine. Time and use will tell the tale on that search engine, but it's immediately clear to this frequent site visitor that FMCSA is right about the organization and presentation.
The FMCSA says its web designers had the customer in mind. We could go a few rounds on the definition of customer. After all, the FMCSA isn't selling anything and, sure enough, the new site isn't slick in the commercial manner we've come to expect. But the new design is pretty in its own, understated, functional way. Now it's easier to find what you're looking for, easier to read when you find it and in an overview it all makes sense.
Truckinfo.com gives a thumbs up and a hearty "well done" to the new FMCSA site, though we will miss the portrait of a smiling Administrator Sandberg, who welcomed us to the old site, but is missing at least from the home page of the new one.
Of course, the new site has the same web address as the old: www.fmcsa.dot.gov.
