After a one day walkout, the United Auto Workers reached a tentative contract agreement with DaimlerChrysler AG's Detroit Diesel engine manufacturing plant
, the Associated Press reported Wednesday afternoon. The agreement came in time for second- and third-shift workers to return to work.
The Detroit News reported yesterday that about 1,300 workers at the plant in Redford, Mich., went on strike Tuesday night after negotiations broke down over a new labor contract. Their 6-year pact expired Oct. 31.
The paper said that the United Auto Workers and DaimlerChrysler are deadlocked over future work at the Redford plant.
Details of Wednesday’s agreement are being withheld pending a ratification by union members.
Workers went on strike shortly after 7 p.m. EST Tuesday outside the plant in suburban Detroit.
