Drivers at Barr-Nunn began receiving pay raises during the last half of 2003 in anticipation of the new hours of service rules, according to officials of the Granger, Iowa-based fleet.

"Barr-Nunn didn’t jump on the recent pay raise bandwagon that has been sweeping through our industry --they started it," said a company spokesman.
The firm said it has always supported detention pay, layover pay and the concept of keeping the wheels turning. Owner-operators have long enjoyed paid base plates and permits and paid tolls, the spokesman said, adding, "Barr-Nunn has known for a long time that it is these perks that make their operators successful."
