A six-week strike by almost 650 workers at International Truck & Engine Company’s Chatham, Ontario, plant appears to be over with a tentative agreement reached on Sunday.

Both the company and the Canadian Auto Workers union released statements saying the agreement was reached on a two-year contract, following the resumption of negotiations on Saturday.
Negotiations towards a new labor agreement began on April 26, but ended when the CAW went on strike on June 1. During that time the union staged pickets outside the plants, which were marred with violence when demonstrators clashed with guards from a private security firm hired by International, as the company made several unsuccessful attempts to bring in replacement workers.
International says no other details of the tentative agreement will be released pending completion of the ratification process, which is scheduled for 10 a.m., Eastern time on Monday.
