NASCAR Rig Drivers Showcase Skills

Earlier this month, Ricky Simmons outmaneuvered other contestants in his racecar-hauling rig to win the second "International Truck Challenge" of the season at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
International Truck and Engine Corp. invited NASCAR Winston Cup big-rig drivers to compete in the timed obstacle course designed to showcase the talents of NASCAR's unseen drivers.

The International Truck Challenge proves driving is a skill shared not only by people like Rusty Wallace and Dale Jarrett, but also by the NASCAR big rig drivers that transport the race teams from track to track.
Simmons, driver for Jimmy Spencer's #26 car for Haas/Carter Motorsports, worked his International 9400i with a 53-foot trailer around a course that included two intricate 180-degree turns, a slalom run, a series of precision movement obstacles and a simulated loading dock.
Kelly Stewart, International Truck Challenge overall points leader after the first two events and driver for Ricky Rudd's #48 car for Robert Yates Racing, finished second going into the series finale.
Simmons drives away with the $1,000 prize as he prepares to compete with NASCAR's other behind-the-scenes drivers for the season's $25,000 grand prize. The winner of each of this year's three competitions receives $1,000 and a shot at the end-of-season jackpot from International, awarded to the points leader after the season's final event at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta Nov. 17.
