EDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc. will merge with AirIQ Inc., a wireless application service provider specializing in mobile asset management solutions.
The two companies will combine AirIQ's vehicle fleet location and management services with eDispatch's mobile workforce management solutions.
AirIQ, based in Pickering, Ontario, is a leader in "telematics," the transmission of location based information and control messages to and from vehicles. AirIQ offers complete end-to-end fleet management solutions to commercial transport fleets, rental vehicle and lease fleets.
The AirIQ telematics solutions combine on-board computing, global positioning systems (GPS), digital maps and a wireless transceiver to provide fleet managers with information about the location and condition of their vehicles. AirIQ's services include vehicle location and tracking, diagnostic alerts and security, such as theft recovery and remote vehicle disabling.
eDispatch specializes in designing software for companies that need to issue transportation instructions to drivers out on the road. It offers an affordable solution for small- and mid-sized companies. According to published reports, the British-Columbia based company was a stock market darling until the dot-com crash of last summer.
Donald E. Simmonds, the founder, President and CEO of AirIQ, will become the CEO of the combined company.
A joint sales and marketing team will target key U.S. and Canadian markets. Until now, AirIQ has focused primarily on a direct sales strategy, and eDispatch has focused on indirect sales via major U.S. wireless operators such as Nextel Communications and Aether Systems. The merged entity will use both approaches.
It is proposed that the company will change its name to "AirIQ."
