According to Stark's News Service Interactive severe winter storms in the southeast have disrupted the construction schedule, forcing the company to move pilot production of Class 7 and 8 trucks from March to late Spring. A grand opening is set for July. This is the second postponement. The original start-up date was December 1999 but weather problems last year also caused delays.
Bering currently imports Class 3,4 and 6 trucks built by Hyundai Motor in South Korea. The new plant will have a 20,000-unit annual capacity but initially plans call for 8 trucks a day.
