Jim Stein, Chairman of J.Stein Publishers, was the original founder of the 10-year-old monthly magazine on cassette. Similar to a book-on-tape, SuperDriver is an audio magazine tailored to the lifestyle of the trucking industry in a three-hour format. Some larger SuperDriver customers, including J.B. Hunt, Schneider, FedEx and UPS, customize their tapes to provide a personalized corporate audio newsletter for their fleets.
Comdata officials characterized the decision to sell SuperDriver as a necessary change in corporate direction. The product no longer fits the company's objective of "redefining the movement of money and information," said Comdata President Gary Krow.
As part of the agreement, Stein will lease the current SuperDriver recording facilities and offices inside Comdata's corporate headquarters. However, Comdata will no longer sell, market or promote the product as part of its Driver Relations services business unit.
Stein says the transition for customers and listeners should be seamless.
