The U.S. Forest Service has proposed to route 6 million board feet of timber from Vail's Blue Sky Basin expansion site down Mill Creek Road and into the Vail Village.
Residents voiced their concerns during a hearing held last week by the Forest Service. Several homeowners and renters of properties on the haul route said that the timber hauling would hurt their business and the local economy.
At the meeting, the Forest Service agreed to extend the comment period on the proposal from Jan. 3 to Jan. 18. The proposal would route up to 12 trucks a day through Vail, from 5 to 7 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to noon for the next four summers.
