America's Road Team Captains Mark Stamper and Maggie Peterson delivered an update at the International Trucking Show in Las Vegas last week. The week will be kicked off by the American Trucking Assns.' National Truck Driving Championships in Tampa, FL, Aug. 18-21. It ends as NASCAR and Heartland Park Raceway (Topeka, KS) dedicate their Aug. 28 Craftsman Series truck race to truck drivers and the trucking industry. The race will also include the National Assn. of Show Trucks' California Custom Truck Show in the race track infield, diesel drag racing for working trucks and professionals and other attractions.
In between, there will be a presidential proclamation, daily ads in major U.S. newspapers and giveaways and raffles at many truckstops. Trucking companies and communities will sponsor events such as picnics and barbecues for drivers and their families. In Rochester, MN, a Minnesota state trooper will do duty in a dunking tank.
The Share America Convoy will ride the week before Truck Driver Appreciation Week officially begins. From Newport Communications' TruckerFest at the Alamo Travel Center in Reno/Sparks, NV, the convoy will go through Nevada, Wyoming and Nebraska on its way to Kansas, where it will end up at the Heartland Park Raceway just days before the truck show and racing in Topeka.
