Lauterach, Austria-based transport and logistics firm Gebrüder Weisshas begun offering last-mile home delivery service in Romania. Under its GW pro.line home offering, goods ordered online are delivered directly to the end customer’s door and, if required, returns are handled as well.

The company said the new service “aims above all to address large mail-order companies, furniture stores, DIY stores, and electronics stores and provide them with professional support in supplying end customers.”

Gebrüder Weiss said that online shopping is “booming” in Romania, noting that in 2018 alone, e-commerce grew 30% compared to the year before. “As a full-service logistics provider, we naturally want to serve this rapidly growing B2C market in the best possible way. The introduction of GW pro.line home is a decisive step in this direction,” said Viorel Leca, country manager for Gebrüder Weiss Romania.

The company stated that is “already very successful in the home-delivery sector in several countries,” including In the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia. In each of these, Gebrüder Weiss is offering its GW pro.line home service.

Gebrüder Weiss also said it continues to be the market leader in the home-delivery segment in its home base of Austria. In 2018, around 335,000 orders from the furniture, household and consumer electronics sectors were delivered to end customers there. That corresponds to an increase of around 20% compared to the previous year.
