Webb Wheel Products has announced plans to expand the number of applications for the Vortex drum brake to include drums for larger and wider S-cam drum brakes over the next year.

According to Webb Wheel, its Vortex brake drums are a lighter, more durable alternative to competitor drums. Vortex drums have heat dissipation characteristics that maximize lining life and reduce life cycle costs. The company says the technology also runs cooler because of reduced wall thickness, a centerline squealer band and external ribs.
The Vortex technology has been added to Webb Wheel's steer axle and wide drive axle brake drums specifically to meet the new stopping distance regulations without weight penalties over the existing standard drums.
