DriverTech, designers of the DT4000 TruckPC, announced several enhancements to its suite of eLog applications.

The new features are designed to improve the accuracy of driver logs and make it easier for fleets and drivers to remain in compliance with Hours of Service regulations.

THe DT4000 TruckPC is a Windows XP-embedded onboard computing system with three modes of communications.

"With the latest eLog updates, drive time is measured by the HOS application using the truck's databus and is recorded on the DT4000 TruckPC," said Mike Stephenson, product manager at DriverTech. "By putting the intelligence in the truck, driver logs are more accurate and the process of managing HOS compliance and driver on- and off-duty status updates is more efficient."

DriverTech's eLog offering also now provides tools to help drivers during roadside inspections, including the ability to display and email or FAX logs from the cab of the truck. Previously, carriers had to print and fax driver logs, adding time and complexity to the process. Now the driver can send the logs and management will get a copy and see exactly what was sent.

An additional enhancement to eLog allows driver managers to better utilize the system's FleetWatcher online portal to view a suite of reports on driver statistics. Included are available driving and on-duty hours, current geographic location, HOS status, and any active or past violations for individual and groups of drivers. This information leads to better decisions regarding driver resources, increasing productivity and utilization.

DriverTech's eLog applications incorporate a fully automated electronic HOS system for compliance with Part §395.8 and §395.15 regulations as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The rules-based processing engine operates in real-time and implements the latest AOBRD (automatic on-board recording device) regulations, including recent safety rule interpretations and guidance supplied by the DOT. Updates to the rules-based engine can be done over-the-air anytime changes to federal rules or guidance occur.

With eLog, drivers access and manage their HOS logs through a simple touch-screen interface and a set of easy-to-use applications that make staying compliant with HOS rules an easy task. Drivers are prompted whenever changes they make to their logs put them in violation of federal regulations, and audio/visual alerts are employed to prevent driving or on-duty violations. Fleets can also configure the HOS system to help enforce their own unique pre-trip and post-trip inspection times.

The reporting capabilities of DriverTech's eLog system also improve safety and compliance by enabling managers to quickly identify impending HOS violations. The real-time warnings allow the driver, driver manager and fleet safety and compliance personnel the time needed to route the driver out of service before a violation occurs.

DriverTech's eLog also helps fleets meet data retention requirements under DOT §395.8(k)(1) by storing each driver's record of duty status electronically for six months. An individual driver's record of duty status for a single day, a range of days or for all six months can be accessed online using FleetWatcher and viewed in a web browser or downloaded and emailed. This feature is especially useful when undergoing a DOT audit.
