Delmar Cengage has released the textbook "Modern Diesel Technology: Preventive Maintenance and Inspection."


Written for entry-level technicians, the book details procedures for maintenance and inspection of medium and heavy trucks. The 386-page heavily illustrated paperback features 17 chapters, each broken into specific areas for easy reference.

For example, Chapter 4, entitled Preventive Maintenance Inspection, includes sections such as Inspection Procedure, Federal Inspection Regulations, Record Keeping Requirements, and PM Software. Other chapters include Braking System Inspection, Steering & Suspension, Electrical Systems and Auxiliary Components, and Trailer Service and Inspection, among others. According to the publisher, "this go-to guide has everything the beginning technician needs to perform effective servicing."

Author John Dixon is a professor and program coordinator at Centennial College in Toronto, Ont., Canada, where he has served as department coordinator for the Truck & Coach Apprenticeship and Modified Apprenticeship programs. Dixon is Vice Chair of the Curriculum
Advisory Committee for Ontario Colleges. He holds professional Canadian licenses in automotive, truck, and refrigeration maintenance.
