Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. has begun offering additional configurations of its S2G propane autogas vocational work truck, including a box truck recently provided to a California delivery fleet.
RH Peterson Co., which is based in the City of Industry, Calif., has taken delivery of the box truck, and placed it into service. The company manufactures specialty fireplaces and outdoor grills.
"The truck has already become a very valuable part of our fleet," said Dominique Seim, senior managing partner with RH Peterson. "It offers us an outstanding combination of power, fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and our drivers are very complimentary of the overall driving experience. They love the way the truck drives and handles. We’re excited about adding additional trucks to our fleet in the near future."
Freightliner debuted the S2G in 2013 as a prototype and began full production at the 2014 Work Truck Show after marketing the truck to the propane delivery segment, where it has received strong interest. It showcased an S2G unit outfitted with a flatbed and crane on its back to demonstrate the unit's application versatility.
The S2G is powered by an 8.0L V-8 engine paired with a CleanFUEL USA propane autogas system that produces 339 hp at 4,100 rpm and 495 ft.-lb. of torque at 3,100 rpm. A 30 percent larger windshield and sloped hood provides line of sight of 8 feet.
The S2G has a GVWR of up to 33,000 pounds and a 55-degree wheel cut for improved turning radius. The chassis comes with a three-year, 50,000-mile warranty with towing and roadside assistance.
