APRA President, Bill Gager, is calling on the Indian Government to accept trade in remanufactured products on an equal basis with new manufactured products.

The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association says the Indian Government should move rapidly to change their position on trade in remanufactured products. With 1.2 billion people and 17 percent of the world's population, Gager maintains that the Indian Government should accept trade in remanufactured products, as well as promote the creation and expansion of a remanufacturing industry in their own country.

"Their rejection of remanufactured products is not in line with those in the world who are promoting green products and puts India in the position of supporting anti-environmental policies, as well as not providing cost effective alternatives for Indian consumers and businesses." Gager says. "If such a pro-active stance is taken the Indian Government can foster a remanufacturing industry in their own country similar to the estimated 500,000 jobs that exist in the U.S. remanufacturing industry."
