USA Truck is up for sale as parent company DSV pursues an asset-light strategy.

The Van Buren, Arkansas-based trucking company was bought by German logistics provider DB Schenker in 2022 for $435 million as part of Schenker’s plan to expand its trucking footprint in the U.S. and Canada. After the Schenker acquisition, USA Truck was officially known as Schenker’s US Land Transport Solutions.

But Danish freight forwarder DSV bought DB Schenker earlier this year, and it has different priorities.

In an October 31 news release, DSV announced that, "following the acquisition of USA Truck via DB Schenker, it has completed a strategic review and determined that USA Truck’s operations are not an optimal fit within DSV’s asset-light business model and will initiate a sales process of USA Truck."

This followed DSV’s earlier third-quarter interim financial report announcement, where the company said, “We continue to leverage our flexible, asset-light business model to navigate the volatile market conditions.”

It reported progress in its Schenker integration but classified USA Truck as a “a divestment non-continued business," indicating plans to sell the trucking company.

More Details About the Transition

DSV will maintain ownership of USA Truck during the transition period, which allows DSV to focus on its core strategic priorities while preserving continuity for USA Truck customers and employees.

During this interim period, USA Truck will continue to operate independently under its existing leadership structure. Both companies are working closely to ensure that the transition is seamless, with customer commitments and employee engagement remaining top priorities throughout the process, according to the release.

“For more than four decades, USA Truck has stood on a foundation built by dedicated people and enduring relationships," said George Henry IV, CEO of USA Truck, in the DSV news release.

"While change is a part of growth, our commitment to each other and to the customers we serve remains steadfast. I’m deeply grateful for the strength, loyalty, and professionalism that define this team and am excited to see this team deploy their experiences to take our customers, suppliers and fellow team members forward."

About USA Truck

USA Truck was founded in 1983.

According to an online fact sheet, USA Truck has more than 2,000 tractors and 6,500 trailers, nine service facilities, and five logistics regional centers.

It offers dry van, flatbed, intermodal, overdimensional, refrigerated, white glove, dedicated and more.

USA Truck went through a string of leadership changes between 2015 and 2017, restructuring in 2016 amid earnings losses. It was struggling before the pandemic and operating at a loss during the 2019 freight recession, but had made a significant turnaround by the time D.B. Schenker bought it in 2022.
