Certain Freightliner eCascadia, Volvo VNR, and Lion Electric Lion8 vehicles are recalled.

HDT provides a monthly recall roundup featuring heavy-duty truck and trailer recalls announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Below are the recalls from July 2023. NHTSA recalls address safety risks, and vehicle owners must have safety defects repaired by dealers at no cost to prevent potential injuries or fatalities.

Volvo Trucks North America Recalls

  • Vehicle:  2022-2024 VNR, VNL, VHD, and VAH trucks.
  • Potential Units Affected: 55,012
  • Component: Windshield wipers.
  • Breakdown: The windshield wiper motor gears may wear prematurely, causing the motor to fail.
  • Solution: Replace wipers at dealership.
  • Vehicle:  2023-2024 VN, VHD, and VAH trucks.
  • Potential Units Affected: 224.
  • Component: Steering.
  • Breakdown: The steering gear fasteners may not be properly tightened.
  • Solution: Tighten the steering gear fasteners.

Daimler Truck North America Recalls

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Freightliner eCascadia.
  • Potential Units Affected: 82.
  • Component: Powertrain.
  • Breakdown: The e-axle planetary gear set may not be welded properly, which can cause the e-motor to detach from the final drive, resulting in an undetectable and sudden loss of drive power without the ability to restart the vehicle.
  • Solution: A solution is currently in the works and under development.
  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Freightliner eCascadia.
  • Potential Units Affected: 332.
  • Component: Powertrain.
  • Breakdown: The service brake system may incorrectly calculate the vehicle mass, which can impair the electronic stability control system performance.
  • Solution: A solution is currently in the works and under development.

  • Potential Units Affected: 170
  • Component: High-voltage circuit.
  • Breakdown: Loose hardware inside the high-voltage distribution unit or direct current junction box enclosures may contact electrical terminals, causing a short circuit.
  • Solution: Replace the hardware.
