A Volvo VNR Electric bound for Manhattan Beer Distributors received its final pre-customer inspection at Milea Truck Sales and Leasing—the second Volvo Trucks dealership and the first on the East Coast to become a Volvo EV Certified Dealer.

Milea Truck Sales and Leasing in New York City is the first Volvo Trucks dealership on the East Coast and second dealership this summer to become certified to sell and service Volvo’s electric trucks.

As a Volvo EV Certified Dealer, Milea’s sales team is trained to consult with customers in the transition towards Class 8 electric trucks. In partnership with Volvo’s electromobility team, they are also trained to evaluate which routes are the most ideal for electromobility, which grants and incentives buyers are available to apply for, as well as how to select the right Volvo VNR Electric configuration for their transport needs and what to consider when investing in charging infrastructure.

The certification also means Milea’s service technicians have been trained and equipped to safely perform battery-electric truck maintenance and repairs for Volvo VNR Electric trucks in operation.

Volvo Trucks and Milea celebrated the sale and start of delivery of five VNR Electric trucks to New York beverage distributor and long-time customer, Manhattan Beer Distributors. The fleet order is expected to helped elevate attention and interest in the Volvo VNR Electric among transportation and logistics companies in the New York area, as well as for Milea’s EV sales and service network.

Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America says Milea is located in an upcoming hot-spot for electromobility in the U.S., and that the certification and EV truck sale will be “especially influential in [their] efforts to enhance commercial deployment of Class 8 battery-electric trucks.”

The dealership group has made significant investments to upgrade its facilities to service battery-electric vehicles, such as a dedicated service bay and infrastructure for charging, in addition to stocking up on necessary parts and key components for the Volvo VNR Electric.

With training and the cost of equipment, the whole process of getting certified is a "very expensive proposition," Milea President Barry Milea told industry press, including Heavy Duty Trucking, during a media event in New York City. But Milea has their own commitment to alternative energy that makes it worth the investment.

"This certification makes us ready to support and drive the future of clean transportation in New York," Milea said. "We're determined to give our customer [Manhattan Beer Distribtors] the same high level of service and commitment on the VNR Electric as we already do on their CNG fleet." Manhattan Beer's fleet includes more than 160 Volvo VNR and VNL CNG Class 8 trucks.

"This certification makes us ready to support and drive the future of clean transportation in New York," said Milea President Barry Milea during a press event in New York City.

Milea is a commercial truck sales, leasing and modification business, with locations in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn, and a fourth location opening soon in Westchester County.

Volvo Trucks says it is currently working to add additional Volvo EV Certified Dealers to its network of nearly 300 authorized full-service dealer touchpoints in the U.S. and Canada.
