Diesel prices and crude oil prices continue to fall. The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel fell to $3.875, plunging 8.4 cents from the previous week,
according to weekly figures released each Monday by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The only region where the average price remained over $4 per gallon was the New England region, at $4.036. Every other region had average prices under $4 per gallon, with the lowest prices found in the Gulf Coast region at $3.843, followed closely by the West Coast at $3.847.
Meanwhile, the price of crude oil dropped more than 6 percent to below $88 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday, amid concerns that financial crisis and economic situation could further slow fuel demand.
Crude prices have plummeted since setting a record high of more than $147 a barrel in July. According to published reports, OPEN members are talking about taking action to try to keep oil prices from falling further. Reuters reported that OPEC President Chakib Khelil said OPEC would seek to balance the market when it meets in December.
