In order to safely install the last two spans of a key overpass in the Interstate 95/395 "Mixing Bowl" construction project, the Virginia Department of Transportation will temporarily shut down
a major traffic route on the East Coast Aug. 16.
Closure of I-95 northbound to I-395 north and I-495 west (Capitol Beltway-Inner Loop) will begin by shutting down the far-left lane at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16. By 8 p.m., all four northbound I-95/395 lanes (and access to I-495 west) will be closed until 10 a.m. on Aug. 17. This closing schedule will be repeated Aug. 23 and 24.
Access to I-395 north and the Tysons Corner area west will be via detour (or alternative routes) to I-95 north/I-495 east to Van Dorn Street to Eisenhower Avenue to Eisenhower Avenue Extension back on to I-495 west (Inner Loop) to I-395 north or west towards Tysons Corner.
