The Florida Highway Patrol told the Sun-Sentinel that the "chain of destruction" started when one of the truck's brake assemblies started falling apart. Troopers ruled that the accidents were a result of the truck's cracked brake drum and no charges were brought against the driver, Larry Wherry, of Lawtey, Fl.
The truck was owned by Ryder Truck Rental. Ryder mechanics on the scene told the troopers that the truck, a 2001 Freightliner, recently had brake work done.
