The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has created a new committee of transportation industry representatives in an effort to better safeguard the nation’s supply chain against security risks.

The Surface Transportation Security Advisory Committee will advise the TSA on surface transportation security matters, including the development, refinement and implementation of policies, programs, initiatives, rulemakings and security directives that pertain to the transportation industry.

The committee consists of 35 members and includes two representatives from American Trucking Associations and one from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. Voting members will serve two-year terms and will report to TSA Administrator David Pekoske.

STSAC will meet at least twice a year, with one of the meetings being open to the public. The committee is tasked with submitting periodic reports on matters that the administrator or majority of members deem important and create annual reports with information on activities, findings and recommendations from the preceding year.

“I look forward to collaborating closely with the newly appointed members of the Surface Transportation Security Advisory Committee,” said Pekoske. “The knowledge and expertise these leaders bring to the table will play a vital role in TSA’s continued efforts to safeguard the nation’s surface transportation systems.”
