The American Trucking Associations predicts that the U.S. trucking industry will haul another record amount of gifts and food this holiday season.

A record $198 billion in gifts and goods is expected to be delivered by truck to homes and business across the country, a 6-percent increase over last year.
As trucks fan out across the nation bearing their holiday cargo, the industry will simultaneously set another record -- passing the 200 billion miles-driven mark in the year 2000.
First to be delivered were 144 million Christmas trees, among them the Capitol Christmas Tree delivered today to the U.S. Capitol. The tree arrived on a Mack truck with CDL holder Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) at the wheel.
Now on the way are toys for Santa Claus to put under the trees, including popular toys Poo-Chi and Tekno, the robotic dogs, and three versions of Barbie.
The trucking industry's refrigerator trucks are doing their part, too. They are moving from farm to market some 1.15 billion pounds of turkey, 200 million pounds of sweet potatoes, plus 100 million pounds of cranberries.

McCormick Jr. "Santa is one of the trucking industry's most important customers, and we are especially proud to break the billion-mile mark as we deliver holiday cheer to families across the country."
