The New Jersey Motor Truck Association pleaded before a special state task force this week for truck rest stops along I-80 in the Garden State.

In response, the transportation task force looking into ways to improve traffic along the highway added rest areas to its wish list of improvements.
But don’t look for improvement anytime soon. New Jersey residents have been resourceful in preventing most truck-friendly projects for the past 20 years. For example, similar pleas for truck parking along I-78 succumbed to political pressure from, among others, bankrupt auto-entrepreneur and once-accused drug dealer John Delorean, whose New Jersey estate is near the highway. Similarly, a long-planned truckers plaza on the N.J. Turnpike remains unbuilt due to resistance from local residents.
