Mercedes-Benz Trucks, a division of Daimler Trucks, recently completed a promotional tour across Europe showcasing its eActros battery-electric truck model.

The eActros is a Class 8 electric cabover, based on Mercedes’ diesel-powered Actros tractor model.

Three eActros tractor-trailers began their European tour, dubbed the “Journ-e” at the Mercedes-Benz truck plant in Wörth am Rhein, Germany. The trucks’ route took them through Germany, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. En route, the trucks stopped off at 14 separate customer events hosting more than 1,000 guests, and gave 1,250 test drives demonstrating the capabilities of the trucks.

Regenerative Brakes in Demanding Terrain

According to Mercedes, most of the charging for the trucks was done at public charging stations along the route.

“The eActros roadshow was an across-the-board success," said Stina Fagerman, head of marketing, sales and services, Mercedes-Benz Trucks. “Our customers were able to test the e-trucks extensively and easily in their respective markets and received comprehensive consulting services from our e-experts. At the same time, our eActros mastered the entire tour confidently and calmly despite the demanding topography.”

The trucks on the tour consisted of two eActros 300 4x2 models and a single eActros 400 6x2 model.

The eAtros 300 models feature three battery packs to power the vehicle, while the eActros 400 has four battery packs, which Mercedes said gives the truck a range of 248 miles. Each battery pack has an installed capacity of 112 kWh.

The powertrain for the trucks features an electric rigid axle with two integrated electric motors and two-speed transmission. Two liquid-cooled electric motors produce a continuous output of 330 kW and a maximum output of 400 kW. A regenerative braking system also captures kinetic energy and stores it in the batteries to help boost vehicle range.

Mercedes-Benz has been building eActros trucks for heavy-duty applications at the Wörth plant since 2021.
