Three Canadian fleets – QSL, Groupe Robert, and Express Mondor – have signed an agreement to create a heavy-hauling and oversized transportation consortium called Mondor-Watson. The completed company is expected to be the largest of its kind in Eastern Canada, according to the companies involved.

QSL will be the majority shareholder, while Mondor will be responsible for daily operations. Groupe Robert will offer its expertise in transportation and logistics and establishing integrations with the rest of its network.

The vertical integration will give the new entity added capabilities and synergy based on intermodality and access to new ports and terminals. This alliance is designed to offer clients an option for combined land and waterway transport.

QSL operates a stevedoring network in North America, offering logistics services for ships, trucks, and railcars. Groupe Robert delivers logistics, distribution, and transportation services. Express Mondor operates specialized and oversized ground transport in Canada and the U.S.

The deal is expected to be finalized April 1. The companies will continue to run independently until that is completed.

“We are highly enthusiastic about our future. Above all, we are especially proud to see Quebec leaders join forces to solidify our position as Quebec’s benchmark in the non-standard transportation and handling industry,” said Eric Mondor, president and chief executive officer of Express Mondor. “Our clients will enjoy cutting-edge expertise and enhanced services thanks to the talent and know-how of the 300-plus employees that the new entity will count on for its continued success.”

“We are tremendously motivated by this exciting partnership and the new opportunities it offers,” said Robert Bellisle, QSL president and chief executive officer.

Michel Robert, president and CEO of Groupe Robert, said the consortium will offer “broadened service offerings” to clients.
