The city added the first five CNG-powered refuse trucks in 2013, and announced this week that the city will add another five this summer. An additional 10-15 will be added by the end of the year, Mayor Bob Buckhorn told the Tampa Tribune.
The new vehicles are expected to make up about 12 percent of the city's refuse fleet by early 2015. Next year, the city will add its own CNG fueling station at the Solid Waste offices on Sprice Street.
The city is expected to spend about $1.50 per gallon less for CNG fuel than it does for diesel fuel.
