Legislation under consideration by the Michigan House Transportation Committee would eliminate differential speed limits for trucks and cars on Michigan highways — limits that currently differ by as much as 15 mph.
Rep. Steve Vear is sponsoring House Bill 4377. The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Assn. reports the bill would set speed limits for trucks at 65 mph (an increase from 55 mph) on highways, streets, or freeways — 70 mph on those freeways where the speed limit has been increased to 70 mph. The bill also extends the current 65-mph maximum speed limit on freeways to all freeways, U.S. highways and state trunkline highways that are considered all-season truck routes.
