Officials in Virginia today are kicking off Roadcheck 2002, an annual three-day concentrated truck safety inspection effort.

Speakers at the kickoff include Joseph Clapp, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator; Stephen Campbell, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Executive Director; Ab Quillian, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner; and Colonel W. Gerald Massengill, State Police Superintendent.
In light of 9/11, this year’s Roadcheck will emphasize truck security as well as safety. During the 72-hour period, truck and bus safety inspectors across Canada, Mexico and the United States will be on the job night and day to check vehicles and their drivers at inspection sites along major highways.
During the kickoff event, at the Carson Weigh Station, on I-95 South at mile marker 39 in Virginia, guests will be given a tour of infrared brake screening, electronic credential screening, Virginia State Police truck safety inspections, mobile weight enforcement units, mobile truck scales, and state-of-the-art weigh station and roadside safety technologies.
