The U.S. Coast Guard has reopened the Port of Morehead City terminal following a chemical spill of pentaerythritol tetranitrate, which is explosive.
The Coast Guard has cleaned up the explosives, and the port was back to normal operations Friday.
"The incident response for the entire event was safe and was brought to a successful conclusion," said Port State Facility Lt. Robert Jones, facility security officer. "As a party in interest, the State Port Facility, shall have a direct interest in the investigation of the incident."
The spill caused no reported injuries or environmental damage.
"The NC State Ports Authority's first concern for the State Ports in Morehead City and Wilmington is for the safety of its employees, tenants, customers, and the public," said Thomas J. Eagar, CEO of the North Carolina State Ports Authority.
