The 78-year history of Old Dominion Freight Line, a major less-than-truckload and logistics provider based in Thomasville, N.C., is chronicled in a new book,
"Helping the World Keep Promises."

With a foreword by Steve Forbes, chairman of Forbes Media, author Jeff Rodengen shares the story of Earl and Lillian Congdon, Old Dominion's founders, who in 1934 pooled their life savings to start the company.

The book is filled with stories and personal anecdotes from long-standing employees, executives and customers.

What began as a company with a single truck hauling eggs between Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia, is today a global publicly traded company with more than 14,000 employees that does $2 billion in annual revenue and has 220 domestic service centers and global operations delivering goods to more than 48,000 locations.
