After a high-side surprise in October, Class 8 orders provided some low-side disappointment in November. For the month, new and net orders were 22,231 and 21,255 units, respectively.

Classes 5-7 orders totaled 18,407 units, up 28% year-over-year. This updated status of the North America commercial vehicle market was included in the State of the Industry report, recently released by ACT Research Co. The report covers Classes 5 through 8 vehicles for the North American market.

“Class 8 orders for the U.S. and Canada have generally out-performed their year ago results,” said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT Research Co. LLC.

“In contrast, export orders have fallen 26% year over year and orders for Mexico have slowed sharply in the year’s second half,” he added. “For medium duty, November is typically a weak order month, but seasonally adjusted November orders of 19,100 units were the second best volume this cycle.”
