SAF-Holland, a manufacturer of fifth wheels, trailer suspension and axle systems, truck suspensions, landing gear and coupling products, has been named by Navistar as the company’s standard fifth wheel partner.
The Holland FW17 was given the position as the standard fifth wheel on Navistar’s International LT Series, a flagship Class 8 truck that was recently unveiled. The FW17, manufactured from cast steel, is a lightweight fifth wheel designed as a durable, yet weight-reduced choice for on-highway fleets.
The FW17 features a precision-machined locking system with a greater kingpin contact area, providing longer lock life, the company said. A user-friendly lock adjustment makes the adjustment process simple and readily accessible.
An optional air release feature allows in-cab air release of the fifth wheel locking mechanism. The FW17 is backed by the SAF-Holland 5-Year/500,000 mile performance guarantee warranty.
Navistar will continue to offer other products from SAF-Holland with the addition of Holland FW35 and FWAL models as published options, starting January 2017.
The FW35, with a NoLube option, has a strong and durable twin-Lock mechanism design to captures the kingpin for a quick, reliable couple. The FWAL is made with Alcoa forged aluminum and saves up to 100 pounds over competitive fifth wheels,Holland said.

Aerodynamic wheel covers can deliver small but meaningful fuel-economy gains for fleets, and Deflecktor says its latest design aims to make the technology easier and more affordable to deploy.
