Montana is edging closer to setting some actual speed limits for both cars and trucks — and it looks like there may be some different limits for big rigs.

The Montana state senate passed a bill that sets day and nighttime speed limits of 75 mph for both cars and trucks on rural interstates and 65 mph on interstates in metropolitan areas.
However, on secondary highways, trucks would be restricted to 60 mph during the day and 55 mph at night. Passenger cars, however, would have speed limits of 70 mph during the day and 65 at night for these same roads.
Montana has not had a posted daytime speed limit for cars since 1995, but that was recently found to be unconstitutional.
The bill still needs approval in the Montana House and the governor’s signature before it becomes law.
