Watch out for lengthy delays as the result of a major bridge reconstruction project scheduled to begin April 1 along the Bishop Ford Freeway (I-94) in Chicago.

"Lane closures involved in this work could cause headaches not only on the Bishop Ford, but on the Dan Ryan and Borman Expressways as well. We will try to do the work as expeditiously as possible," said Bruce Dinkheller, IDOT's Engineer for Project Implementation in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The 11-mile Bishop Ford bridge connects the Dan Ryan expressway on the north with the Borman on the south. The bridge reconstruction covers 2 miles.
Eastbound I-94 will be reduced to one lane from Cottage Grove Avenue to Stony Island Avenue. The westbound freeway will be reduced to one lane between 107th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.
A truck detour has been set up using the Stony Island Avenue ramp system.
Six bridges will be reconstructed over the interstate between the southbound I-57 connector and Stony Island Avenue. The bridges are eastbound Bishop Ford/I-94 over the I-57 connector; eastbound and westbound freeway over 97th Street, the Norfolk Southern Railroad Yard, and Woodlawn Avenue; east and westbound freeway over 103rd Street, and westbound freeway over southbound Stony Island Avenue. The work is scheduled to be completed in November.
