Eastern U.S.-based e-commerce parcel carrier LaserShip plans to merge with OnTrac Logistics, a parcel logistics company operating primarily in the Western U.S.
The combined company will have a footprint that reaches across the United States. LaserShip Chief Commerical Officer Josh Dinneen told The Wall Street Journalthat the combined network would allow two-day shipping to 74% of the U.S. population, and offer over 100 sorting and delivery hubs, a solution he said doesn’t exist outside UPS and FedEx.
“It will be the only pure-play national e-commerce solution in last-mile parcel delivery and will enhance customers’ ability to meet growing demand in the consumer delivery market,” LaserShip officials said in a press release.
Due to expectations of heightened shipping volumes during the holiday season, LaserShip and OnTrac will not begin to link their networks until 2022 and will operate independently until that time.
LaserShip offers e-commerce last-mile delivery for retailers and shippers in the Eastern and Midwest U.S. Meanwhile, OnTrac’s service area includes California and the major metropolitan areas of Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho.
