Kenworth has successfully delivered the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, which was lit in a ceremony Wednesday evening on the Capitol’s west lawn.
The tree was transported more than 3,000 miles by a custom-decaled Kenworth T680 from the Port of Tacoma in Seattle to the Capitol building in Washington D.C. The Kenworth T680 was operated by Lynden Transport, and the truck was made available for the tour by PacLease.
The 74-foot Lutz spruce was harvested in late October in the Chugach National Forest in Alaska and was transported by ship from Anchorage to Seattle.
“This year’s Capitol Christmas Tree Tour provided some great moments for the adults and children at the community events and for those who saw the ‘The People’s Tree’ going down the highway transported by our special Kenworth T680 tour truck,” said Kurt Swihart, Kenworth marketing director. “We’re proud to have participated in this American tradition.”
This is the 51st anniversary of the Capitol of the Capitol Hill Christmas Tree Ceremony which began in 1964. The tree will remain lit from dusk until 11 p.m. each night during the holiday season.
