CentreDaily.com, State College, Pa., reported that a 25 mile stretch of I-80 reopened Friday after emergency workers contained a hazardous-gas leak from a tanker truck.

The leak came from an empty Dow Corning Corp. tanker trailer. The un-named driver noticed a vapor leak after he parked at the Pilot truck stop in Clearfield County Thursday night. The trailer had been used to carry silicone tetrachloride. The driver notified authorities and moved the truck to a less-populated place about a mile away.
Silicone tetrachloride is used in the electronic and construction industries. When mixed with water or moist air, silicone tetrachloride becomes hydrogen chloride, which can explode if ignited or cause injury if inhaled.
Eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80 were shut down between exit 86 and exit 111, as were several local roads in the area. Businesses and homes within a mile radius were evacuated. A 40-mile detour was put in place and the Red Cross set up two emergency shelters.
No injuries were reported incident.
