Goodyear wants to be the leader in fuel-efficient truck tires. Why? Because the number-one concern of long-haul fleets across America is fuel costs.

The company stated that goal at its 2015 Goodyear Dealer Meeting in Grapevine, Texas, where one high-level commercial tire executive remarked to reporters that Michelin is the target.

The comment was made in reference to Goodyear adding the new Fuel Max LHS steer tire to its Fuel Max LHD lineup. It is available in four Load Range G and H sizes: 11R22.5, 11R24.5, 295/75R22.5 and 285/75R24.5. A precure retread pattern that complements the Fuel Max LHD also was introduced.

A Fuel Max trailer tire, the LHT, will be available in the fourth quarter, as will the RSA regional all-position tire.

The move away from number nomenclature is calculated, according to Brian Buckham, general manager of commercial product, marketing and future innovation. “We're trying to simplify the naming process."

To support the enhanced commercial tire effort, Goodyear also announced to dealers that members of its Goodyear Commercial Tire & Service Network now have access to additional features and benefits, such as custom websites, training support and a special purchasing program for shop and truck equipment.

In addition, an app is now available to help make the roadside service experience better for both fleets and dealers. The Smart Tech App, which is available for both iPhones and Androids, features buttons that technicians push to keep all interested parties informed of their location, activities and progress.
