Georgia does a pretty good job of issuing citations to overweight trucks, but a recent state audit has revealed that they aren't as tough when it comes to imposing fines and collecting them.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia's fines, which are set by the state Legislature, are extremely miniscule and among the lowest in the nation. To make matters worse, a report by the state Department of Audits said that the state makes little effort to collect the fines, doesn't charge interest for late payments, and allows enormous balances to pile up, which is resulting in lost revenue for the state.
The newly-created Department of Motor Vehicle Safety is reportedly going to focus on the situation and possible solutions.
