Federal truck safety regulators are looking for public comments on plans to toughen entry-level driver training requirements.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will host a listening session on the issue January 7 in Charlotte, N.C., at an American Bus Association meeting.
Under orders from Congress in the new transportation law, the agency must post a final regulation by next October.
It has been working on driver training rules for years, the most recent development a proposed rule in 2007 that would require anyone applying for a new or updated CDL to graduate from an accredited program that includes road training as well as class training.
The listening session will be open to the public at the Charlotte Convention Center. It will be webcast on the agency's website. For more information see yesterday's Federal Register.
