FedEx Freight -- with FedEx Trade Networks and FedEx Ground -- is now offering ocean and ground service from Asia to all continental U.S. ZIP codes via FedEx Trade Networks Ocean-Ground Distribution service.

The company says the service helps reduce inventory cycle time with fast overall transit times and fewer processes than traditional ocean service from Asia.
FedEx Freight (regional less-than-truckload freight services), FedEx Ground (small package ground delivery) and FedEx Trade Networks (customs clearance, freight forwarding and trade facilitation solutions) are subsidiaries of FedEx Corp.
FedEx Trade Networks prepares shipments in Asia and manages the ocean portion of the service as well as customs clearance and document preparation. FedEx Freight and FedEx Ground handle the inland distribution transportation once shipments are cleared at U.S. container freight stations in gateway cities.
Reliability and predictability are the keys to bypassing the distribution center component of importing, according to FedEx. From the moment shipments are labeled at their origin in Asia through delivery to ultimate destination, access to status information is available through a FedEx web site.
The company says this information enhances shippers' ability to quote and maintain delivery dates for customers, providing them both with a high level of comfort and the option to carry less inventory, and possibly bypass distribution centers in the U.S.
Applying shipping labels in Asia eliminates the need for labeling on the U.S. side of the move. The resulting benefits can be a reduction in warehouse labor, administrative costs and the risks of re-handling.
Shippers may also be able to cut multiple days from their overall transit times using FedEx Trade Networks Ocean-Ground Distribution service. Commercial ocean carriers are used based on service, reliability and fast transit times. The palletized or loose freight that originates in Asia may travel by full or less than container load shipments. Upon arrival in the U.S., the consolidated shipments are deconsolidated at one of two gateways, which maximize the next-business-day and second-business-day coverage provided by FedEx Freight and the transit times provided by FedEx Ground. This allows for rapid transit times as the shipments are delivered directly to multiple recipients as LTL freight by FedEx Freight or as small package shipments by FedEx Ground.
FedEx Freight expects most of the freight moving through the new service to originate in the following regions of Asia: Hong Kong, South and East China, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.
Many other Asian countries can be accommodated, including Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Japan and India.
