The Eastbound lanes of the Interstate 24 Bridge between Illinois and Kentucky will be closed between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Central time today
. During the closure, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department to conduct a crash reconstruction as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal crash that occurred on the bridge last Wednesday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation, Massac County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will assist with rerouting eastbound passenger vehicle traffic off I-24 at the U.S. 45 Metropolis Exit 37 to southbound U.S. 45 and across the Irvin Cobb Bridge into Kentucky. Once eastbound traffic enters Kentucky, message boards will direct motorists to follow U.S. 45 to KY 305/Old Cairo Road and then connect back to I-24 at Exit 3 in Paducah.
Truck traffic is prohibited on I-24 until the investigation is complete, since trucks are not allowed on the U.S. 45 Ohio River Bridge at Brookport.
McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden expects the investigation will take about an hour.
There should be no impact on westbound traffic along I-24 through the area.
